Hiroki Sakamoto is not just portraying the greatness of the athletes; he is expressing the feeling of the game, the true spirit of the sport with artistic vision. There are two sides to every story as with every game played, and all that participate in that game, Hiroki as the artist understands how to visually portray these sides. His style of using illustration to capture emotions and actions of the players goes beyond what photography displays as a still image that is simply freezing the moment. When he picks up his tablet and pen he is not just drawing. And he mixed Japanese animation, pop culture and skills on his artworks.
Hiroki Sakamoto was born in Japan. After working for 12 years as an art director, he moved to New York in 1998.
In 2002, he won the annual The Best Photography Web-site award by PDN.
He started a blog called "hoopNBA from New York"(www.hoopnba.com) in 2005, and it became one of the top blogs in Japan quickly. He was able to have his first showcased exhibition in New York in 2006. He was selected an official artist for BJ League(Japanese Professional Basketball League)FiveArrows in 2010.
